In our latest adventure, Polly and I decided to try something new and exciting: a fish spa! Located in Surfers Paradise, just a short distance from our home, we embarked on a foot treatment that involved immersing our feet in a tank of tiny fish.
You may either check out the video below or read the summary below.
Before starting, we had to remove any equipment, loose items, shoes, and socks to keep the fish safe in their tanks. The professional staff then conducted a foot screening, washed, and sterilized our lower legs and feet with soap and a germ sterilizer.
Next, it was time to immerse our feet in the warm fresh water tanks containing Garra Rufa fish, also known as “Dr. Fish” or “nibble fish.” These toothless fish gently rasp, suck, and nibble away at dry and dead skin, leaving the newer skin exposed.
We laughed and squirmed as they worked their magic!
Benefits and Precautions:
Fish spa treatments like this are believed to have various health benefits, including improved circulation and potential relief for conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. However, it is essential to research and consider your own health situation before engaging in such activities. One caution is to ensure that the correct species of fish, Garra Rufa, is used, as mislabeling can lead to potential risks.
Conclusion:
After a delightful 20-minute session, we emerged from the fish spa with refreshed and invigorated feet. We had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, particularly because I’m so ticklish. It was not only a great way to care for our feet but also a fun activity to do together. We highly recommend it to anyone, especially those with ticklish friends or partners.
As we bid farewell to Barefoot Fish Spa, we left with a sense of satisfaction and a desire to return. We learned that the spa is working on introducing a full-body fish spa experience, which we are eagerly anticipating. If you’re in the Surfers Paradise area, we encourage you to visit Barefoot Fish Spa for a unique and enjoyable treat for your feet.
