The idea of starting a YouTube channel is something that has intrigued me and has been on my radar for a long time. I’ve had the bucket list goal of starting a YouTube channel for a long time, but never really come up with an exact focus. For example, would I create bucket list specific channel? Productivity-related? Gaming? Other? And beyond not even knowing the focus, I alone would not have the time or capacity to do something like this as I already struggle to get everything I want and need to get done for my social enterprises, tech startup and teaching endeavours.
As a result, it’s been on the backburner as an idea for something to be done in the future. Something to be done when time frees up. Something to be done when the stars align. Just not for the current now.
However, a while ago things changed as my girlfriend Polly and I figured that we should create a couple YouTube channel (called “Polly & Jon“).
“Why?” you may ask? Well, we decided to do so for a number of reasons, including:
- To create everlasting memories and have fun;
- To get better at making videos and storytelling;
- To inspire and teach;
And in the following video, we go a bit more into depth about these points. Anyways, it has been a great decision, and while we don’t necessarily have a crystal clear “focus” or “niche” for the channel, we’re just having lots of fun with it and we may figure that out as time passes.
Importantly, while we of course aspire to improve and grow the channel, we don’t measure our worth or the success of it by the number of subscribers or views. Instead, we love the journey, and what we have realized over time with the YouTube channel is that we have had an increased layer of joy in our relationship; seeking more fun and adventures. And that we have grown closer together as a couple having to collaborate on something requiring both time and dedication.
That being said, if you want to stay tuned and follow our journey, you can consider subscribing (I’ve promised Polly a cookie for every subscriber…). If not, that’s also OK!
Cheers!
