Polly has been pulling a lot of surprises on me lately and helped tick off things from my bucket list. This time around I was told to show up in “sports clothes” and did not know anything else. About an hour or so before the experience when we were having some lunch though, she kept teasing me with the fact that we would be doing boxing and that she could not wait to punch me…
However, while that would have been fun too, to my surprise she had arranged a class of aerial yoga for us!
Some quick facts about aerial yoga:
- Aerial yoga is also known as anti-gravity yoga, fly yoga or flyoga
- The large piece of fabric attached to the ceiling is usually called a “hammock”
- Proponents of aerial yoga say benefits include decompressing the spine, and increased core strength, balance, flexibility and mind-body awareness.
As probably one of the world’s most inflexible person, with little experience with “normal yoga” as well, I knew from the get-go that this would be a fun – but difficult – challenge.
It was indeed a lot of fun, and so thanks to my sweet girlfriend Polly for arranging it and thanks to Daisy Yoga Studio – and the amazing instructor Yuko – for this great experience. We may come back in the future!
